Picture: FT FILE Copra farmers in Cakaudrove and Bua can resume the sale of raw copra to Fiji Coconut Millers from next week. Company CEO John Deo said a team would be in Napuka, Saqani and Kubulau routes next Tuesday to buy raw copra. This purchase transaction was shelved after the mill in Savusavu was partly destroyed by fire causing total damage of $200,000. “Those farmers who do not have copra dryers have held back supply of raw copra for one week until next Tuesday when we resume buying raw copra,” Mr Deo said.

This was the view expressed by National Farmers Union general secretary and former prime minister Mahendra Chaudhry. He said based on the $54.36 per tonne price, farmers would receive a delivery payment (60 per cent of forecast price) of $32.61 against harvesting and delivery cost of $38 per tonne.
